I saw Blur last night and I’m going to see them again tonight!

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I’m going to save the actual “review” for when I submit my article(s) to www.junkonline.net & www.Voize.my but I will say this – it was every bit and more of what I expected! Being short sucks but having people empathize for being vertically challenged is nice too ;-) (I had this one guy who kept insisting he take the photos/videos for me).

Some highlights of the show include:

  • Seeing Graham Coxon smiling along with the other dudes.
  • Seeing Graham Coxon roll around on the floor on the stage.
  • Seeing Graham Coxon.
  • Seeing Damon Albarn reliving his younger days doing airsplits and stage diving.
  • Singing along with thousands to Tender (the extended version)
  • Phil Daniels singing to Parklife (I wonder if he’ll make an appearance today too).

I’m a little dissappointed when Damon Albarn said he doesn’t know how they can keep it up the next day (July 3rd) – hinting perhaps they are getting a little too old to act young!

Right, so as promised, a little photo journalism of my trip to-date:-

T – minus 1 day!

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Tomorrow I will be on an AirAsia X plane (my first long haul flight on a no frills airline) to London! I seriously need this mini break, even though I am sorta ‘working’ by churning a couple articles out for it.

Of course today of all days the POUND is selling at close to 5.9! It’s ridiculous as last month it was only 5.4. When the exchange rate differs by only a few .01 it doesn’t really matter but it does show a bit of a difference It doesn’t really make that much of a difference with .1 difference. For example I changed RM1500 and got £255 – £277 if it were selling at 5.4. That’s a 22 pound difference. With 22 pounds I could buy me enough round of beers for a massive beer hangover the next day! That says a lot.

So I’m all set to see Blur. I’ve been reading reviews and I even managed to catch a snippet of their performance at Glastonbury online. The connection was slow though because I had to change IP Proxies to a UK one (proxy descrimination!!) Anywhooo…my music playlist now is arranged according to their set list. “Purists” may complain that it’s too singles heavy but seriously though – it’s a killer set and I can’t wait. 2 Nights of Blur and some pretty good opening acts.

Check this space for more updates! I’ll see if I can ‘twitter’ from London via my phone. I’m still deciding whether I should bring my lap top. Bringing it means I’m bringing my work with me, but at the same time I can choose to ignore work. Typing everything out when it’s all still fresh in my head helps. Plus my travel buddy wants his 2 mins of fame. He’s dying to get out there and get all middle earth on you!

peep this ID Ben made for me!21 more days till London for BLUR and a little under 4 months till I make my ‘grand’ return back to the good ol’ USA for a week and another week in London after. What’s different this time around is that I’ve actually managed to get 3 of my friends from the States to fly over the Atlantic with me. We’re thinking about flying to Glasgow from London for a couple days cause tix on Ryan Air are seriously cheap! (GBP 2 for a round trip ticket – ur kidding me right?) I also found a pretty reasonably priced guesthouse for 13++ Euro a night. You’ve got to love the name – McLays Guest House (The cheapest way to get laid in Glasgow!)…

In Lille

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

Hey Folks – sorry for the lack of updates. I finally found some time to write a quick one just to let you know that France (Lille) has been pretty sweet. I arrived Thursday night. Saturday was my sister’s wedding - and let me tell you – it was so great. Everything from the morning rush to get ready and dash over to the City Hall for the civil wedding - to the reception at night. Personally, I don’t think it could have been better and mad props to the in-laws (yes I have in-laws now!) for an amazing job!

Congratulations to my sister Remona & to my brother in-law Jacques! Welcome to the family ;-)

Tomorrow I’m off to London! I have a day and half there before I’m back to Malaysia. I don’t know if I will have time to post pictures and videos till when I come back however….

For now – here’s the sweetest yet naughtiest kitten in Lille…Saint Pat – suckling on my fingers cause he thinks I’m his mother :-P

It's raining in Dublin

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

9 days of nearly perfect weather was good while it lasted. Now it’s raining, cold and wet and I’m hanging out in the “common room” at the Litton Hostel enjoying free wifi.

Dublin is one of those places you should tell everyone to go to. There’s no way I can cover even 25% of the things I want to do for the 3 nights/4 days I’m here (I’m leaving tomorrow) I did make it a point to do the utmost tourist thing though yesterday. I got on one of those hop on/off Dublin city tour buses and I went to the Guinness Storage Warehouse to learn about how Guinness is made and treat myself to a free pint after. 1 pint turned into 2 pints. For me that is a math equation for overspending at the gift shop! I got two things to decorate my new home back in KL and a bottle opener keychain. I spent something like 60 Euros…but at least I got a free pint glass! After spending nearly half the day at the Guinness factory I hopped on the bus again and got off at the Temple Bar area and did some walking. I saw these group of people cutting up old beer cans and making them into ashtrays. The sign they had up said “We are graduates, and…WE DON’T FIND A JOB!…Please!”. The were selling the ashtrays for one Euro each. A little pricy but they were really nice so I bought 2! It’s a pity my feet are totally ruined or I’d walk the whole city… And as I suspected, Aunt Flow is here – but I’m handling her remarkably well then I would other days!

After a nap – I went to the kitchen to eat something and I met 2 American girls Shannon & Amanda from Maine. We decided to go for a drink at Quays in Temple Bar – that led to another pub to another and another. It was fun though and  if by some chance they are reading this – drop a sister a line! It’s been my thing this trip to meet people and lose contact with them cause of a) lost phone b) lost among a sea of people.

I’ll be posting pictures and videos up soon!
