That’s right folks! A few friends and I are having a flea market of sorts at my mum’s shop in Kelana Jaya.  We’ve been planning it for a couple weeks but ‘advertising’ for it for only a couple days. We hope for a decent turn out cause we have waaaay too much cool junk to just throw away. I’ve been sorting out what I want to “honourably pass the baton down to and at a cheap cost” and I have lots of old clothes which I sadly I can’t fit into now – most of them I’ve used only a handful of times at the most during my “corporate clothes” wearing days.  Also, I’ve collected a number of “new” freebie promo t-shirts during my ‘media’ days which I will probably be giving out for almost free! Some old magazines I’ve collected in the day..CD’s… accessories and wow i dunno just a whole load of random stuff I guess. Hopefully by attracting friends and friends of friends my mum’s shop will get some word on the street. She has lots of cool stuff she wants to sell. Most of it is stuff she’s picked up while living overseas. I fell in love with a Russian tea set she has – they are older than me! The stuff from Mexico is pretty cool too and she has porcelain China from the Mao Tse-tung era – apparently they were destroying all the China but my managed to save a few so they are considered valuable!

You know you’re boring when ….

… your first comeback post is about the colour of your bedroom walls. It’s true, I’m really into ‘home improvement’ and adding a bit of “me” into the mix. In the beginning I didn’t mind having my apt. look like a poor man’s ikea show room but I think it’s really taking a toll on my “chi”.

A few months ago I painted a “theme” wall in my living room. I gave it some colour to compliment my framed FANTOMAS poster. My living room already attracts lots of light mainly due to the fact I don’t have any real curtains to block the sunlight from coming in. The yellow/orange sunset colour from the wall managed to brighten and warm the room up more. It still lacks personality though. Funny enough, a lot of my personality is stored up in boxes and disguised as “junk”.

Just recently I decided I’d paint a wall in my bedroom seeing how I spend most of my time there. I knew I wanted a dark warm colour – an earthy brownish / beige tone to give that ‘zen’ feel. I went with some friends to the paint shop and we narrowed it down to a few colours, in the end I had them choose the colour for me and it was a shade of olive – brownish/orangish/greenish.

And for the lolz and oohz and aaahz and oucchez… one of the gnarly bruises I got on my thighs from my fall off the ladder while painting this wall…

Philosophy of the Shaggs

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

theshaggsI was on a music blog kick and decided to do the shallow thing and explore bands based on their names. I came across this 60s all girl band The Shaggs cause well, c’mon now – a pretty awesome name for a band I’d say.

I downloaded their Philosophy of the World album. I can’t decide whether to laugh, admire or just enjoy it. The lyrics are so simple and …laughable. Everyone’s doing their own thing when it comes to the instruments. Think lo-fi “jazz”. It’s actually quite charming. Charming in the way you find “special” people. Charming and special like these kids: http://kidsofwidneyhigh.com

Today started off at what I would have thought was a good day but a sudden sadness hit me when I got to my parents place for the weekly “parent/child” get together. My dad still has flu/cold symptoms and when I saw him he was high on some kind of medication so he felt real tired and was zoning out. My mum wasn’t her chipper self. She was kind of moody. I left about 1 1/2 hours later and made my way to Ikea to use the gift vouchers I got for my birthday. Traffic was ridiculous and my car airconditioning was blowing hot air. I thought some Ikea retail therapy would lift my spirits up a little but it didn’t really do much. I did get a bed in breakfast tray which I’m currently using as a laptop ‘table’. That’s kinda cool I guess. I also got a handy ironing board cause I’m going to start taking better care of my clothes (ie – ironing them!) and the usual scented candles and pet hair removal rollers. I also spent close to 200 rm on groceries (!).

I guess before talking about today I should haven’t talked about yesterday, which was Halloween. I got my bangs cut so I could go as Buttercup of the Powerpuff Girls but had the black/green dress coordination all messed up. I ended up just putting lots of blood on my face and facial ‘prosthetics’. The latter didn’t really stay on for long with the humid weather here. Oh well. I had another back-up – Edna Mode. Ha ha. Mel dressed up as Olyve Oil and Ben was DICK IN A BOX. Pretty sweet. Maybe I can pull something decent off next year! It was a pretty early night. (Jump to first paragraph if you want the ‘chronological’ string of events)

So I’m in the here and now. I am recording a VO demo tomorrow. I’m hoping this is a step into the world of VO’s (and extra cash).
