Joe the foreign student did it!

Saturday was the Murder Mystery Party (in conjunction with Ben’s birthday). It was lots of fun albeit the chaos that is synonymous for first time ‘Murder Mystery Party’ throwers. Ben acted as Gamemaster aka the “Janitor” from “Janitoria” – he planned the game, characters etc… Seeing how all of us graduated from High School in the 90s, we thought it best to have a “90s” theme.

Blue balls of the Hollywood kind

LOST is probably one of THE best television shows that has ever hit our shores. Unfortunately, it also left our shores after season 2 and came back a year too late for season 3 and 4. By this time I said “Way to lose me Malaysia” and turned to the world of seeds and torrents.. huhu. Season 5 ROCKS the way Oceanic Flight 815 did when it crash landed in Season 1! I’ve been lurking the gossip/entertainment sights and apparently we will get a lot of questions answered by the end of season 5 (only 4 more episodes @!#$!)

Who's that girl behind Sun? Blooper or part of story line?

After trawlling around and making my frequent rounds on ONTD - I came across Jorge Garcia’s blog (the actor that plays HURLEY on Lost). How cute is it that it’s on a blogspot and not some pretentious “dot.com” ? Well after reading a couple of his posts – specifically the “OMG: WAL*MART just sent me TAMPONS!!!” post I saw a couple people freaking out that his address was showin in the picture (turns out it’s the address for his management team in Hawaii). The readers were just worried about stalkers visiting his home and all. One reader posted the Rebecca Schaeffer incident in the late 80’s/90’s which spawned all sorts of privacy protection acts in the US. Schaeffer’s murderer was Robert John Bardo – some nut job with obvious and severe emotional and psychological problems. Kind of creepy. To read the full story go here:- http://www.franksreelreviews.com/shorttakes/shaeffer/shaeffer.htm What can I say? I’m obsessed with the “Morbidly Hollywood”.

Hipsters are modern day Hippies

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

I’m sure I’m not the first person that has said this but Hipsters are like the modern day Hippies - though the term ‘Hipsters’ came about in the 40’s BEFORE Hippies roamed the earth.

I’d imagine Hippies in the 60’s/70’s were just as annoying (and probably as dirty) then as the Hipsters today. Hippies were probably not as pretentious though.

See the thing that boggles me is we probably all longed to be just like them (Hippies & Hipsters) but were either too ’smart’ or lacked courage and spirit.

Bless the hipsters:- http://lookatthisfuckinghipster.tumblr.com/

I almost forget to mention that on Friday I finally got to catch AIRCON at KLPAC. Props to Zalfian the man! More on this later.

Also more on:

My first “happy hour” sans smoking
My little adventure in the parking lot while looking for my car
And the awesome Ramly burger I had that was the icing on the cake for a fairly decent evening.

It’s Sunday night now and I’m getting reading to go to bed. Here’s wishing for an excellent week for both you and me!

Cheers.

I did it “Mai” way

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

When you quit smoking, it’s not as much the nicotine withdrawal as it is psychological. I know this for a fact because 6 days ago I “quit” smoking, more so the ‘act’ of smoking. The hardest part so far is when I’m driving (esp. in traffic) and when drinking… coffee.  Also – in social situations.

At this point of the supposed withdrawal, you’re already feeling all sorts of crazy so why not act it?

Playing the part of crazy when quitting smoking (sounds like a movie title eh?)

  1. I like the “pretend you’re actually smoking” – a la’ mime style. Hold the cigarette, take a deep inhale of the mime cigarette and exhale as though your last exhale. Do this several times and you’ll feel yourself at ease, calm – almost therapeutic! You can use this strategy when faced with stressful situations at the work place, school and when witnessing random acts of stupidity from ignorant people.
  2. Another strategy I find works is to say the act of smoking. For example, in the car today I was with a friend and we were stuck in traffic. I told him, “right now, I’d be lighting a cigarette up” – I would then mime me smoking (see step 1). You can also narrate your movements by saying “I’m inhaling now. Exhaling. Oh how lovely the smell of smoke!”
  3. The above two ‘tips’ do not require money (just a slight feeling of embarrassment). There are other forms of non-nicotine smoking. What about the smokeless cigarette? Google “smokeless cigarettes” and you will find several brands. They are quite pricy so if you’re kinda on a budget, check out prop cigarettes – also known as joke cigarettes. You’d have to exhale though and some wierd powder puffs out that looks like smoke.

I’m not a professional at this kind of stuff. I wasn’t even a heavy smoker to begin with compared to a lot of people (on average maybe 2 packs a WEEK). Towards my final decision to quit – I was only smoking a pack every 1 1/2 weeks. Even though I didn’t smoke a lot I was still a smoker and that was one less thing I wanted to be.

I read somewhere that “smoking merely relieves the situation that smoking created in the first place – the need for nicotine.” It’s the act of needing the nicotine if I understood that correctly. And there are many ways to replace the actual act of lighting up. It is okay to substitute inanimate objects to replace that cigarette void. Inkless pens and straws make pretty good replacements… but that’s just “mai” way. So far so good!
